Simple Ceramics was born out of a passion for making and creating. Following a career passing my knowledge of making with yarn and thread, I returned to an earlier love of ceramics. From there came an opening out of the simple joy of making pottery to exhibiting and selling to the wider world. Thread + Clay has been the culmination of combining all these areas into one pop-up gallery space in the Old High Street, Folkestone. I'm so looking forward to continuing and growing the business and feeding my passion to make. Developing Simple Ceramics and letting it flower with Thread + Clay will give others an insight into how creativity can go in so many directions.
Thread + Clay is the gallery showcase for the work of Simple Ceramics and Bee Clinch at Eight Squared gallery in the creative quarter of Folkestone and the vibrant Old High Street. Work from both the ceramics studio based at Bee's home just outside Folkestone and her work with quilt and mindful sewing and weaving will be displayed and, in most cases, available for sale. Much of the inspiration for both comes from her love and study of the work of Japanese and Scandinavian ceramicists and their traditions of expression and creativity. Much of the clay and sewn work has been done over a number of years to reflect Bee's love of nature and to represent her dual British and American heritage. The space in the Old High Street is a perfect way to experience a gallery space without compromising the studio practice. Visitors can expect to view and buy the work or simply to discuss how the work is achieved and to gain insight into craft.
